Avon started in 1886 as the California Perfume Company. A book salesman named David McConnell handed out perfume samples with his books, and folks kept asking for the perfume. So he started selling it, and then he did something unheard of for the time. He gave a woman a way to earn her own money. Her name was Mrs. P.F.E. Albee, the first Avon lady. And she went out and brought other women in with her.

Over the years it grew into skincare, makeup, and personal care. Skin So Soft, Anew, and the "Avon calling" that rang at a million doors. Today, Avon is part of Avon International once again, and it's still about the same thing: making beauty something everybody can reach.
